Welcome to the Kathryn Lewek Studio of Voice and Piano
It is my mission to help you achieve all of your musical goals. Our work together will reflect your specific ambitions and each lesson will be tailored to fit your individual needs.
Beginner:
Voice and Piano
As a beginning voice or piano student, special attention will be payed to the learning and reading of the musical language and will be geared towards translating that knowledge in a vocal or pianistic expression. In the voice studio, the most important elements of singing will be thoroughly explored to create a solid foundation for singing throughout your life. As a beginning piano student, most of our work together will be directed towards coordinating the written music on the page with your fingers on the keyboard.
Intermediate:
Voice
Exploring more deeply the important elements of singing, the intermediate student will also find that part of our work together will concentrate on the aspect of performance. Often times, the intermediate student is part of a school or community choir, and may be auditioning for school music festivals or performing solos. I will provide helpful tools to help cope with nerves and performance anxiety during an audition or performance situation. I will help you direct your energy to help, not hinder you under those circumstances. Our work will be a balance in performance technique, vocal technique, and communication polish.
Piano
As an intermediate piano student, the importance of technical polish will be heightened. Practice time at home will be increased due to the higher difficulty of the music. Having mastered the basics in reading the musical language, the intermediate student will be introduced to the more intricate and subtle levels of delivering a convincing pianistic performance.
Advanced:
Voice
The advanced voice student is one who wishes to broaden their vocal horizons more seriously. The advanced student may be preparing for vocal competitions, a senior recital, or auditions for summer vocal programs or for college admission in a vocal program. Lessons will include continued study of vocal technique and performance technique. Special attention will also be payed to vocal diction when singing in Italian, French, German and Latin. A strong emphasis on performance polish will play a strong role in each lesson.
